Last night I went to the Water Rats pub in King's Cross where Diane Birch were doing her fist London gig....I didn't know what to expect, she's very new and actually I'm no music expert.

She blew us away! What an incredible voice she has!

She writes her own songs, she plays the piano and has a fantastic stage presence. what to say....single of the week on i-tunes, that must means something!

Today I decided that I will only nominate Heros, not Fashion Police, as the women that attented the Met Institute Gala were all very beautiful and glamourous! my favourite were Amber Valletta in RM by Roland Mouret: super sleek and sexy; Chloe Sevigny, my ultimate fashion crash, in Proenza Schouler was divine! Surely when I was 14 I never had to attend a public event....but if I did I would have had many outfits problem! The piano music accompanies the pleasant meal in the underground restaurant, making you feel totally in New York. WEEK END TRIP - BICESTER VILLAGE

Because London was rainy and most of the shops closed; also because sometimes it is nice to do something different; I went to Bicester Village, a very chic outlet shopping village located outside London, before Oxford on the M40.
Usually I am not a huge fan of outlet shops for the only reason that they retail collections from the past... and I don't like old stuffs. But I have to say that I wasn't disappointed. Brands like Marni or Jack Wills don't follow the trends so you can't go wrong. Also because this is a rare occasion to find a brand new YSL bag for less than £400. Or to buy a Villebrequin swimsuit for men £40 or Thank you notes from Smythson for £6 only. Do you need some more reasons to go? Lou

This is a nice look ......very nice. Please have a look at the dress, the fabric is precious, the print, which is always more risky to go for, is beautiful. I can't explain why I love the belt, the shawl, the black shoulders .... I don’t know exactly what's going on there but nice....very nice.
She has fantastic natural hair and she is so right to keep them that way even to such an elegant event: the Monte Carlo Rose Ball (Moroccan theme this year).

There was a bit of a queue to do but it was all worth it. Nice relaxed atmosphere, fantastic bread and croissants, really everything you want for a lazy Sunday brunch. xx Juls

Last Friday I went all veg: a great dinner at Saf - great looking restaurant and bar in Curtain Road - Shoreditch. Using a variety of unique preparation techniques, most dishes are cooked below 48°C to preserve optimum nutrition and flavour. I shared a Tasting Plate, made of beetroot ravioli, vegetable maki, olives & spiced nuts, tapenade, sun dried tomato,cashew cheese with raw flax seed crackers and homemade pickles with my friend. As main course I had Lasagne, but obviously not the traditional ones, but with raw Bolognaise, sage pesto, olive relish, mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes and macadamia ricotta. The veg experience has never been so tasty!

Those cocktail dresses are beautiful, precious and elegant but cool. Personally, I love the Elie Saab one, love the décolleté, the sleeves, the bottom is wonderful too. For once, I don't see any faux pas, I mean the shoes are so right nude for Dakota and black with studs for Emilie, their hair-cut match their look, outfit and occasion. 10/10 Lou

Black or White.....both my captain! I couldn't say the one I prefer, the cut of the jumpsuit is stunning and I love the Louboutin shoes (for once) that Elisa is wearing. They also do exist in a nude color; they are highly recommended to people looking for nude shoes at the moment. Orrery is a French restaurant on Marylebone high street on top of the Conran shop. It actually belongs to Sir Terence Conran, as well as the Bluebird, Le coq d’argent, Cantina del ponte, l’Avenue etc…
They serve an excellent new French cuisine restaurant imagined by a one Michelin-starred chef. We chose a fantastic bottle of Bourgogne for only £45. The service is hopeless but the food is great from the amuse-bouche till the coffee biscuits. Btw, if you book with toptable, you can have dinner on a Saturday night for £25/pers. A nice place for an unusual romantic dinner. Lou

This season at the Oscars it was all about shoulders: maybe we don't know, but in Hollywood if you cover your shoulders they throw you rotten fruit. Just to be safe our celebs wore strapless, strapless and strapless. Little de-route for Anna Kendrick (in pink Elie Saab) who dared little off-the-shoulders straps. But that was it. All the other girls followed the trend. Zoe Saldana went all brave in this Givenchy ruffled gown, Very beautiful. Cameron Diaz led the beaded group with a stunning Oscar de la Renta, while Sarah Jessica Parker was the epithome of glamour in a custom made Chanel Couture. What could you ask more? Positive note to Miley Cyrus that, even if she lookes twice her age, chose a gorgeous and cool Jenny Packham gown. xxJuls

No dress you would die for? Me neither but I have to say that Zoe's dress in another shade I wouldn't say no. This Givenchy gown is a wonder, look at the work stunning! I like Miley too; she really has a great body. In my opinion very few people can wear this dress, her shoulders are beautiful, her breast is perfect for the bustier, her waist I don't even want to comment, stop.
SJP looked good, let's say elegant but that's it and Cameron glamorous but déjà vu hundreds of time on a red carpet. Anna is not my favorite but cute. I am sure nowadays they are more designers than ever but not one actress managed to get THE outfit which rocks on her this time. I really do believe that too much choice kill the choice! Last weekend I went all singing-queen at the Birdcage pub in Columbia Road, the most fun pub ever! Karaoke is a tradition here and the coolest east-london crowd almost fights to get a spot on the stage. Either you arrive early and choose your tune, or you'll just sing-along with the lucky ones. But the best time is guardanted anyway!

The angle of the picture doesn't help, but I think there's too much going on in the upper part (i.e. shoulders are too padded and hair too curly) and not enough in the bottom part (i.e. skirt is too short and shoes not appropriate). Ok, ok I'm sorry if my local vintage shop is the coolest in London! Blondie Vintage is a petit tidy fresh airy boutique which offers amazing vintage pieces in great conditions! You won't be able to shop for vintage anywhere else after you visit Blondie. It is so welcoming and everything is divided carefully by colour and size with the most precious pieces hung on the wall behind the till or displayed in clear cabinets. i shouldn't share such a rare gem, but I feel generous today! xxJuls

The Berkeley hotel in Knightsbridge had a great idea when they created a collection of cakes and fancies in the color of the fashion season and in the style on the world's finest designers.
"Madame, would you like some more Burberry?" I beg your Pardon????

Basically, the cake’s shape represents a Burberry Mac, a Chanel bag, a Roger Vivier shoe, a Mulberry bayswater purse etc…. £35 per person, £45 with Champagne.

I haven't had the chance to try it quite yet, but I only hear praises about it! Apparently the best real Italian thing in London, offers gelato, gelato cakes, and also some other Italian favourites likes piadine and little patisserie. Oh and the coffee, of course! There's one shop in Holland Park and one in Notting Hill, and a small corner near Charing Cross.

Sunday, late afternoon, smells like the end of the week end, I decide to go to the Westbourne for a drink which do end up most of the time with a diner, balanced, fish and vegetables for me, rib-eye steak and French fries for my husband (you get why I keep saying boyfriend Juls? – sounds like I am 45). I am not a big supporter of make-up. I think that a woman's natural beauty comes also from her flaws, that's why I don't like to cover up my face with layers of foundation / blush etc. it looks so fake to me. But recently I found this great product, by Laura Mercier, that is a teinted moisturizer: light and soft you don't know it's there but it evens the skin up. Revolutionary! After this discovery I obviously couldn't stop, so I bought a concealer for the lids, which I haven't quite understood its potential yet because I don't see any difference after the application....That I see instead with the third purchase, a beautiful powder for brows, which makes them fuller and clearer, and it's so easy to apply. I love it!

Yesterday night was the night of the glamour: at the Great Connaught Rooms in London a parade of celebrites made its way to this sumptuous room where awards for best actor and best designer, among the others, were handed by Editor in Chief and other VIPs....it all sounds great, except that was utterly boring and I quite don't get the point of giving these awards. Who decides the winners? because Kristen Stewart woman of the year is quite inexplicable to me....or Claudia Schiffer model of the year....I mean of the year 1993 ok, but of 2010 I don't know....I was seating in the PRs table, the farest you can from the stage so I basically had to watch the all thing from a screen (I could have been on my couch for that, without wearing a tight dress and a complete Laura Mercier make-up) anyway, I saw David Gandy - really really handsome - and I went home with a heavy goody bag. Gourmet weekend

My weekend wasn't one of the most memorable in terms of activities (usual stuff Japanese lesson, pilates, rugby match...) but it was impressive for the food-related discoveries I made.

On Friday, on my way to meet my friends in a pub in Marylebone High Street I took the wrong street and I found myself in front of this little gem: The Golden Hind - Fish&Chips from 1914! I dragged my friends down and, despite it is very very busy, in 10 minutes we were seated (10 people!) and we had the most amazing meal for the cheapest price. This is definitely a hit!

Then on Saturday, not to lose the habit, we tried this charming gastro-pub on the corner of paul Street, near Old Street tube station. The atmosphere is cozy and the waiters are extremely kind (pretty unusual for a pub on a Saturday night). But the great surprise is the food: nicely presented and absolutely delicious! I had a chicken&mustard pie, which was delicate but tasty and totally fresh. I also had a pudding at the end (I normally don't!) which was chocolate-heaven.

Korean food is not as popular as Japanese or Chinese food and that’s a pity! It’s a very convivial atmosphere as you cook your meat and vegetables on the BBQ on the table. The quality of the meat is probably the most important factor in judging Korean BBQ, and beef is my favorite option because it is so tender, they cut the sirloin in very thin slices: delicious! Another positive thing, it’s not too expensive, £10 per person for the meat and £7 for 3 side dishes such as tofu, vegetables or rice. The most important to remember is that it’s certainly not the good option for a first date, cause of the smell of smoke she won’t let you come upstairs!!!! Lou

Savoury crepes!

So yesterday I tried a new recipe and I suggest it to everyone! Savoury crepes are very easy to do and they'll make you look like a pro in front of your friends: 30gr of butter, 2 eggs, 200gr of flour (I use spelt but you can use whatever you like), 500gr of milk. Whisk the first two together and then pour in the rest...easy! when it's all creamy pour a couple of spoons in a nonstick pan and that's it! when they are cool fill them with the ingredients you prefer (I made mine with cheese and ham), then cover them with bechamel or milk and stick them in the over for 15mins! Delicious! My boyfriend even had one this mornign for breakfast! Julsxx

Yesterday after work waiting for my boyfriend before going out for dinner, I decided to take a look at Harrods. I went first to the shoe department tried on some Roger Vivier then went to YSL and tried 3 dresses, each one more beautiful than the other one and finally after spending £0 I stopped 15 meters from the exit at the Benefit make-up bar to check the new products. The sale's girl jumped on me, put on my face the brand new product called "One Hot Minute"; the principle: to make you look hot in one minute. I must say that I looked much better after. This powder is magical, very light; you can wear it with or without make-up on; on top of that she added the new blush “sugarbomb” and that was it, £45 less on my bank account. This morning I received a call from my Pilates studio saying that the class of tonight has been cancelled! I am so upset! i have joined this Studio a while ago and I strongly recommend it. it's called Beautcamp Pilates, they have a studio in West London and one in East London (guess which one I go to...;-) the teachers are great, you really sweat all your calories out and at the end you feel good and toned! It's pretty hard at the beginning, as you have your own reformer and you must keep up with the rhythm of the class, but once you get used....great job for the abs! xxJuls

Then the totally unknown Chery Hines, who decided to come to public view with a freakin' scary dress: too shiny, too tight and too long. too bad!!! Finally Bonnie Sommerville (?) thought that her dress was too boring (true!) so she splashed it with silver paint. Bad idea. xx

Varekai… I remember asking myself before going in the Royal Albert Hall, what does it means? The answer is, in Romany language, “Wherever” and actually it is true. This spectacle brings you wherever you wish to go. I am not a big fan of circus… at all actually, but I loved it very much. The colours, the music, the atmosphere… on stage there is like a forest of Bamboo trees, which remind me one of my favourite film:” the flying daggers”. The acrobats are amazing, in particular the Russian swings and the angel at the beginning but also that guy who juggles with ping pong balls and later panama hats as if they were boomerangs. But what I retain is the power of these people….more than Sarkozy or Obama (at least in 2010)… they made me dream. Lou

Juls: in this section we could have put 100 pictures, but these 3 sum up well the disasters of the night: Kate Hudson has some problem with semplicity.....a more constructed dress and high/bulky shoes were difficult to find and a more boring/old hair-do also not easy to do. Patricia Arquette, which is probably 120 years-old decided to wrap herself in the sarong she bought in Sharm-el-sheik, quite astonishing. But the golden globe goes to Mickey Plastic Face Rourke, ridicolous with leather lined jacket, chains and hat, but even more with the 19 y-o long legged blonde that was in his arms.... xx

Juls: honestly, I haven't been struck by anyone this year, but there definitely were some beautiful gowns: Drew Barrymore is doing good lately, nude with application seems to be her trend now and I approve it! Stunning Diane Kruger got my vote even wearing pink (which is not a favourite of mine) but that Christian Lacroix was close to perfection. then Toni Collette sparkled for femininity (at last!) with a very well cut Elie Saab. xx

Dearest Drew, lately you look so good, you found (or your stylist) your style; which makes you a winner every single time. This dress do match your skin color, your character... always accompanied with the right accessories or hair do. Which is not Diane's case. Vintage Fashion London

A friend of mine told me that this Sunday we all need to go to Primrose Hill to spend a day browsing and buying from the many stalls of the Vintage Fashion London Fair (http://www.vintagefashionlondon.co.uk/): apparently vintage clothing, hats, handbags, gloves, shoes, jewellery and textiles from 1800’s – 1980’s will be on show. I can't wait! Nearby there is also a nice pub where I'd love to have a late lunch, it's called The Queens and has a lovely little terrace overlooking the park. Julsxx

The beautiful Olivia Wilde (from the series "House") was stunning yesterday in this Alberta Ferretti frock: I really love this dress, for the delicacy of the colours and the innovation of the fabric.......only problem......PYTHON accessories! They say that the right accessories pull an outfit together, well here they almost push it apart! Julsxx

With an Alberta Ferretti dress on, you can only look elegant and sophisticated. This look works so well, she is splendid. We would almost forgive the clutch and shoes in python...

My cupcakes are better

Today, while we were waiting to pay our lunch at Harvey Nichols, we saw these cupcakes: attractive colours, nice packaging, so we decide to buy ourselves a treat. We read so much about them on the magazine, as they are "made" by ex-model Lorraine Pascale. You can imagine the disappointment, after the excitement, of discovering that they are really awful! I mean the Oreo biscuit-flavoured one was so buttery and sweet that i almost got instant diabetes and the chocolate one barely accettable. now, for £5 the pair, this is a real rip-off! Mine are so much better! Julsx

My Favourite Dress

Last night we went to the presentation of the book "My Favourite Dress", a very nice book about designers and creative people who state what is their favourite dress. It was held at the Fashion&Textile Museum, which was a disappointing surprise: very poor&cheap I'd say and the cocktail was made of water and awful white wine. Guests of the night were Zhandra Rhodes and Suzy Menkes (!) but the whole thing was boring and not fashionable at all. An example of what we saw is in the pictures....starting from a look directly from 1992 to hair of every colour and shape (the last girl also decided to match her fantastic orange hair with orange plastic boots, orange necklace and orange ribbon.......you won't get lost darling....) xxJuls

How on earth these women can think they are fashionable???? I mean Fashion is elegance, creativity, a way to express ourselves but please what does it mean to dye your hair orange, or should I say to dye only the hem of your fringe orange, to wear the same day some hunter boots … orange, to buy a plasticky chunky necklace….orange, and borrow the outfit of Beetlejuice on top of it.
La mode is supposed to be a solution, to help us accepting ourselves, to look better than reality. In conclusion, this was the worst fashion event I went to, there wasn’t ONE single sophisticated and stylish woman to admire last night. What a pity for the launch of a book called “My Favorite Dress”. Lou

MAKE UP TIP

I have been using the Shu Uemura cleansing oil for 2 months now and I am becoming a convert. Initially I was afraid of adding oil to my skin as I thought it would create blackheads.I followed the instruction 3 pumps on dry skin with dry hands then adding water to turn milky. It removes my make up completely and leaves my skin clean and moisturized and toned. In fact, even after rinsing, I still feel like there is a layer on my face but it seems to be just fine. My skin is luminous. I recommend it to everyone. (I personally use the purple one: brightening cleansing oil). Lou
